MeitY's IndiaAI Mission Commits ₹10,371 Crore — 10,000 GPU Compute Nodes Coming

India's Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) formally launched the IndiaAI Mission with a ₹10,371 crore ($1.25B) budget, committing to create a 10,000 GPU public compute infrastructure, fund AI startups, and establish AI centres of excellence across IITs and IISc. This is the largest government AI investment in Indian history and signals a long-duration public push for domestic AI capability.

What This Means for Your Career

Government-funded AI research jobs are about to expand significantly — not just at DRDO and ISRO, but at IIT-affiliated AI centres and new AI CoEs. If you are doing an M.Tech or PhD in ML/AI in India, the next 3 years will have more funded positions than any prior period. For the private sector, the compute infrastructure will reduce the cost of training Indian-language models, enabling more startups doing Indic AI.
